1996: Joined Auxerre from Nimes’ Under-15 side.
1999: March 20 – Makes French Ligue 1 debut for Auxerre in a 1-0 defeat to Paris St Germain.
1999-2000: Makes two appearances for the Auxerre first team, scoring no goals.
June 2000: Scores six goals as France win the European Under-18 Championships.
2001-02: Cisse is the top scorer in Ligue 1 with 22 goals as Auxerre finish third and qualify for the Champions League.
May 2002: Makes international debut in pre-World Cup friendly against Belgium and is included in Roger Lemerre’s squad for the finals.
2002-03: Plays for Auxerre in the Champions League but they finish third in their group and drop down into the UEFA Cup.
May 2003: Scores in the French Cup final as Auxerre beat Lens.
June – Part of Les Bleus’ Confederations Cup-winning squad.
February 2004: Sent off for France Under-21s, incurring a five-match ban which rules him out of the senior squad for Euro 2004.
